Project Olas

Context

Project Olas is an organization aimed to provide relationship centered language learning to students and a safe working environment to a community of Guatemalan mothers from garbage dump zone area. Project Olas has requested design recommendations to improve user experience on their website.

Problem

The scope of our Project was to create a more intuitive user experience for “Project Olas website”.

Solution

To create a more intuitive user experience, we decided to focus on the three touch points associated with the primary task of learning language via Project Olas. A simpler onboarding process, coherent class purchase plan and an updated dashboard for students to be more organized.

Process

Research

We conducted Stakeholder interview, heuristic evaluation, existing website usability test, and competitive analysis. Additionally, we conducted a usability test on our prototype and iterated based on that to come to the current prototype.

Key themes that emerged from all methods of research:

  • Confusion surrounding onboarding process section of the website.

  • Not enough information on, what’s included in the class purchase plan.

  • Unfinished appearing Dashboard.

Competitive Analysis

We analyzed various direct and indirect competitors to identify potential gaps in the market and opportunities for growth. The top three competitors we evaluated are TalkAbroad, LinguaMeeting and Duolingo.

Pros

  • TalkAbroad : Features listed on Hero section

  • LinguaMeeting : Clear pitch “Language practice with native speaker coaches”

  • Duolingo : Clear call to action- Get started /already have an account

Cons

  • TalkAbroad : Multiple languages, doesn’t specialize in Spanish

  • LinguaMeeting : Preset Plans and pricing

  • Duolingo : Not interacting with a native speaker
